30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 30 My Husband

November 30, 2012

I saved the best for last. I am thankful for my incredible hubby! (Did you think I forgot about you baby love?)

I don’t know where I’d be in life without this man I call my best friend and husband. He is everything to me and I know there are more days than not (when crazy hormonal Krista comes out) that I don’t deserve him.

He’s such an amazing husband, an amazing father, and an amazing friend. He’s everything I have ever needed. God knew exactly what He was doing when He created Jordan just for me.

Jordan is a tad bit younger than me {insert cougar jokes} and he decided one day that he had feelings for me and ran after them. He pursued me until I finally gave in and spent some time with him. It didn't take long before I was head over heels in love with this charmer. April 9, 2004 I told him “I think I more than like you” and he responded with “I love you too”. The rest is history!

We dated 4 years before Jordan popped the question and I, of course, without any hesitation said yes. He had planned the perfect proposal too. I’ll have to share more of those details in another post where I brag about my amazing hubby. ;)

May 31, 2008 we tied the knot and became one. It was one of the happiest days of my life! I knew my prince charming would always be there to sweep me off my feet and I knew I was a lucky girl.

Jordan and I have a firm foundation built in Christ and I believe that it is what enables us to have a successful marriage. There are bumps and sometimes mountains we have to overcome, like any marriage, but we always get through them and we get through them hand in hand, side by side.

He is one of the most patient guys I have ever met. He has to be to put up with me. Let just be honest here. Ha! He’s got a heart of gold and he’d do anything for anybody that needed him.

He’s an incredible father to Mason which makes me fall even more in love with him. He’s so good with him and he plays just like a kid with Mason. It’s adorable to see.

I am truly the luckiest.

Jordan Matthew Kerns,

You have my heart and I love you more than words or actions will ever be able to show. I am so thankful for my life with you. You mean the world to me. I couldn’t have asked for a better man to call my husband, to call my best friend, to call a father to my children, and to spend the rest of my life with. I’m enjoying this journey we call life and I’m looking forward to growing old and wrinkly {you wrinkly, not me} with you. Thank you for loving me the way you do. No one could do it better.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 29 My Son

November 29, 2012

He’s a little over 2 feet tall, he’s got gorgeous blue eyes, he’s got the cutest little belly laugh, he’s so polite, he’s got the most precious smile, he’s got a cute yet ornery personality, and he’s stolen my heart. He’s my little miracle; my son.

I’m thankful to be a mother, but I’m even more thankful that Mason is my son. He is absolutely one of the greatest gifts the Lord has ever blessed me with.

He’s so full of spunk and personality! Each day he grows more and more into the cutest little man any mom could ask for.

He’s stubborn and independent yet sensitive and loving. He’s got a little bit of mama and a little bit of daddy; a great combination.

My day begins and ends with that little man in my arms and I couldn't be more thankful for his sweet heart.

There are days when he tries my patience, as any little munchkin close to age 2 would do, but even when he’s throwing a tantrum I can’t help but want to kiss those cheeks. ;)

I’m so excited to see where life takes this little guy I get to call my own.

Before he was born, I wrote him a little love letter that you can read here. I’m looking forward to the day when I can read him that letter and he understands just how much he means to me.

“I love you so much Mason Jordan Kerns. You have made my heart so much happier than I ever thought it could be. I will cherish each moment that we share as mother and son. You are my precious baby boy and always will be. I pray you know just how much you mean to me.

I can’t imagine my life without him. He’s given me so much more joy in life than I could ever have imagined.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 28 My Disability

November 28, 2012

The birth of this blog was founded on my gratefulness to my greatest imperfection, my disability.

There are days when I feel resentful to my disability, but overall I’m thankful for living with Spina Bifida. I truly believe living with a physical disability has enabled me to find strength in places that I wouldn't necessarily seek if I didn't endure so many trials.

I’m thankful for the woman these trials and life circumstances have helped me to become. I’m thankful for the strength I have day to day to keep going, to keep moving, and to keep fighting against any trial that comes my way.

From 15+ surgeries, to toe amputations, to deformed legs and feet, to being told I could never be pregnant, to being told I’d never walk or run….I am a conqueror and I owe it to the source of all my strength, Jesus Christ. Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” That has been my life verse/motto from the moment I let Jesus into my heart.

Without the strength of Christ or the love and support of my beautiful family and friends; I know without a shadow of a doubt I would've given up a long time ago. There are still days I wish more than ever I could carry my son around like other mothers do or run around and chase him like my husband does or wear cute stilettos or wear shorts to show off my legs or grocery shop without being in pain when I'm done or run a marathon. There are so many things I wish I could do, but when I step back and look at my life I realize I have more strength, more peace, more joy, and more blessings than I ever thought possible and I understand without living my life each day with a disability that creates a strength in me to chase after those things, I may not have become so blessed to have the things I fought for.

My life isn’t always sunshine and rainbows, but it’s a pretty great life. I know that finding Christ as my strength early on has allowed me to place my hope and faith in a God who has never let me down. Don’t get me wrong; He’s taught me plenty of lessons, but He’s never forsaken me.

Sometimes it takes big things in our lives to bring us to our knees so that we can find where our strength truly comes; for me that strength has been in Christ and that “thing” is my grateful imperfection.

Each one of us has imperfections. I pray you find the beauty in those imperfections; see what they have allowed you to overcome in your life, see where they have brought you peace, see where they have brought you joy, and be grateful for them.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 27 Music

November 27, 2012

I am thankful for music. It’s something that I listen to daily, something that I rely on at different times in my life, it’s something I truly don’t know what I’d do without.

Music has a special power to move us and stir our emotions. Anyone who has ever wiped tears away from their eyes listening to a song or felt uplifted during an emotional time cannot deny how powerful notes, lyrics, and chords can be.

It’s a huge part of my life as well and I’m surrounded by it. I wouldn't have it any other way. My hope is that Mason has a similar passion for music like his dad and I do.

There are so many different types of music and I’m thankful to enjoy most of them. I do have one favorite song; Sailing by Christopher Cross. If you ask me why it’s my favorite I can’t quite answer it because I’m not really sure. I know that when I was an infant my dad would put head phones on my ears and let me listen to Christopher Cross. This song must just be one that stayed with me.

I’m always looking for new music. What are some of your favorites?

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 26 Christmas

November 26, 2012

It’s the most wonderful time of the year in my mind and it’s my favorite time of the year. I am so thankful for Christmas!!!! Can you see my excitement!?!?! ;)

I’m thankful that it’s a day we get to celebrate the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ. It is a time of God showing His great love for us. God sent His Son, Jesus, into the world to be born. His birth brought great joy to the world. Shepherds, wise men, and angels all shared in the excitement of knowing about this great event. They knew this was no ordinary baby. It’s a beautiful holiday with a wonderful meaning.

I’m thankful for the time that I get to spend with my family and friends over Christmas as well.

There’s always yummy food, great music, lots of get togethers, shopping, wrapping presents, decorating, Christmas movies….the list goes on. J

I hope that as you prepare for Christmas over the next month you share with your kiddos the real meaning of Christmas and why we celebrate such a special day.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 25 Being a Mother

November 25, 2012

One of the greatest gifts in my life has been my precious baby boy, Mason. He has changed my world in such a way that I never would've imagined.

I am beyond thankful to be his mother and to be a mother in general.

Living with Spina Bifida has always been a challenge, but when I decided I wanted to have a baby, it put up even more of a challenge with my doctors. Several of my doctors were asking me not to get pregnant, but I knew I was meant to be a mother and I knew that nothing and no one would stop me. ;) I’m stubborn.

Anyway, my little miracle was born on 1/25/11 and my life instantly changed. My heart grew more and my role in this life became so much more important.

It’s an honor to be a mother, it’s a huge responsibility, and it’s an incredible blessing; and every day I’m thankful for it.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 24 Friends

November 24, 2012

I am so thankful for the many people I get to call friend. I have been blessed with a group of people in my life that I can always count on.

I wish there were more hours in the day where I could spend time talking with friends.

“We'll be Friends Forever, won't we, Pooh?' asked Piglet.
Even longer,' Pooh answered.”
A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh

To all my amazing friends; I love you and I’m thankful for our friendship.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 23 Family

November 23, 2012

I’m so thankful for my family; immediate, extended…I’m thankful for them all.

The dynamic of my family is one of a kind and I couldn’t feel more blessed to have each and every one of them in my life.

Some of my best memories are with my family. I hold each memory close.

I know with life just being the way it is I don’t always get to see them as much as I’d like and I definitely don’t get to tell them how much I love them often enough.

I pray that as life continues on being as hectic as it may; that I never take my family for granted.

I love each & every one of you. I hope you never forget that.

There are several things in life that I really enjoy and find joy in; cooking is one of those things. I love hosting parties, but what I love even more is hearing when people enjoy the food I make at parties.

Over the last year I have fallen in love with Pinterest for the simple fact that it has opened a whole new door in cooking for me. There are countless recipes and ideas on there. I could get lost forever in the sea of Pinterest recipes.

With Christmas on the way I’m searching for some fun, unique yet easy recipes to make. What are some of your favorite things to cook/bake?
