Life.
Today is one of those days where I have a topic I want to
write about that is not the most cheerful or exciting of topics, but one that
is life changing and one that’s been heavy on my heart lately.
For some weird reason I have found myself diving into the
news more and more lately and reading these sad, heartbreaking stories of
death. Why? I have no clue, because after I read them I feel so sad for those families
that have lost loved ones and I worry about how they will carry on.
Recently, I have had some friends of mine who have endured a
death in their families or the death a close friend and I’m just heartbroken
for them. One in particular that has stayed with me lately is the sudden death
of a friend’s brother in law. He was killed in an accident and it is heartbreaking
and tragic, but I was immediately worried about his wife and their 3 kids. She
just had a new baby and already has 2 other little ones and her husband was
taken from them. I tried to imagine what she was going through and I all
I could think about is how I’d take care of my kids, my home, my life. Maybe it’s
the planner in me or maybe it’s purely educational, but knowing how I would
take care of things if anything were to ever happen to my hubby has been on my
mind the moment I became a mother and I had more responsibility than my just
myself to be concerned about.
There’s no way we can ever be fully prepared to endure life
after we lose someone. There’s pain, heartache, stress, a hole where they left
us. It’s not easy. It never will be. We can however prepare financially if we
ever have to face such an unfortunate event in our life. How? By insuring your life and the lives of your
loved ones. How do we do that? Life insurance.
Being the wife of an insurance agent I have learned so much
about the need for life insurance and just what it means to people. I mean I “knew”
about it and always had whatever policy I could get with my job, but learning
more about what it means for my future and for the future of those I love has
been life changing.
Yes it’s a financial investment and one that you hope to
never have to use, but think about the “what ifs”. There is no guarantee in life
and it’s tough to swallow, but the planner in me wants one less worry if ever I
lose the love of my life. I want to know that the future of my children and me
does not have to be altered because I didn't adequately and selflessly prepare
for life situations that I could mildly prepare for.
I don’t want to worry about paying bills, losing my home, feeding
my children, not being able to afford new clothes for them as they grow, or being able to afford
sending my children to college if I ever such a tragedy strikes my family. I
don’t want my husband to worry either.
My hubby and I both have life insurance policies on
ourselves to insure that if ever anything were to happen to one of us, we’d be
ok financially. I feel safe and secure just a little bit more knowing that we
are investing in a product that will take care of us if we need it to. We also
have a policy on our little boy and the little boy on his way if ever anything
were to happen to them. It’s not something that any of us like to think about,
but it’s life. It’s what you’re insuring, it’s what you’re investing in, and it’s
what is important.
Some people think “well I’ll be dead; I don't have to worry about
all that stuff. My family can worry about it”. How fair would it be to leave your family in debt, with no
way to pay for a funeral so they could properly grieve, no way to pay for home
you lived it, etc.? Not fair and horribly selfish.
From the LIFE Foundation:
“Life
insurance provides cash to your family after your death. This cash (known as
the death benefit) replaces your income and can help your family meet many
important financial needs like funeral costs, daily living expenses and college
funding. What’s more, there is no federal income tax on life insurance
benefits. Most Americans
need life insurance. To figure out if you need life insurance, you need to
think through the worst-case scenario. If you died tomorrow, how would your
loved ones fare financially? Would they have the money to pay for your final
expenses (e.g., funeral costs, medical bills, taxes, debts, lawyers’ fees,
etc.)? Would they be able to meet ongoing living expenses like the rent or
mortgage, food, clothing, transportation costs, healthcare, etc.? What about
long-range financial goals? Without your contribution to the household, would
your surviving spouse be able to save enough money to put the kids through
college or retire comfortably? The truth is, it’s always a struggle when you
lose someone you love. But your emotional struggles don’t need to be
compounded by financial difficulties. Life insurance helps make sure that
the people you care about will be provided for financially, even if you’re not
there to care for them yourself.”

Shopping for life insurance can be overwhelming and
stressful. What type of policy do you need? How much can you afford? What's the difference between a term policy and a whole life policy? How big of a policy do I need?
Then you have to decide whether or not you can trust your agent and
what they’re telling you is actually for your own good or for their benefit.
Thankfully I have the best agent in the world that I get to call my own. I
trust him with my life because he’s my husband.
If you’d like more information on what it would cost to
insure the stability of your family’s future you can contact him at any time. He
went into insurance because he felt a calling to help educate and help protect
you and your families. Not just with everyday insurance like home and auto, but
with life insurance. When he sees a family in need of it and knows they are hesitant
in investing in life insurance, he spends time finding coverage that is
affordable for them and he comes home telling me how he’s been able to help
protect another family and their future.
I’m thankful for the education I've received on life
insurance and I wanted to make sure I shared the same information to you so
that you could better protect your family's future if need be.
It’s important to our family and I hope it’s important to
yours.
I pray that no one who reads this will ever endure such
heartache, but if you do then I pray that you have taken the time to invest in
protecting your family’s financial future.
